Ricshawn Adkins Roane

Executive Director

Ricshawn works at the intersection of philanthropy, advocacy, and policy for economic, racial, and gender justice. Her philanthropic vision is to lead the return of resources extracted by colonialism, exploitation, racism, exclusion, and sexism to the communities most impacted. She joined the Foundation as Executive Director in late 2021 and previously served as Vice President, Philanthropy and Chief of Staff at the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Ricshawn works on the homelands of the Manahoac peoples, also known as Vienna, Virginia.

Carmie is an Afro-Caribbean humanist and the Operations Associate at the Weissberg Foundation. Carmie earned her B.A. in Sociology from Columbia University in the City of New York, where she also studied art history and Brazilian Portuguese. She previously interned at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and produced an art project entitled “Black Bones/Magic: A Genealogical Grimoire” at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She is a classically trained vocalist, enthusiastic traveler, and devout spiritualist.

Brandy is a designer, strategist, facilitator, and network builder who has dedicated nearly 30 years to advancing social justice across various sectors. Brandy began her career as a youth organizer supporting and mobilizing young people who, like herself, had been adversely impacted by the juvenile justice and foster care systems. Brandy is committed to funding, elevating, and amplifying the work of grassroots racial justice leaders and organizations to realize a more liberated future.

Director – Operations

Amanda is the Director of Operations at the Weissberg Foundation, where she oversees finance, HR, vendor relations, and technology systems. In addition to making sure the Foundation runs smoothly, she ensures all internal policies and practices as well as external relationships are in alignment with the mission and values of the Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2009, Amanda worked with the UN World Food Program in Nairobi, Kenya.

Leah is the Director of Narrative Strategy and a narrative and culture change strategist. Previously, Leah served as the Chief Impact Officer of IllumiNative. Leah has appeared in The Guardian, LA Times, and the BBC speaking on Native representation and narrative change. She serves on the Advisory Board for the Speech and Debate Program at Cornell University and the Impact Guild. Leah resides on the homelands of the Piscataway peoples, also known as Washington, DC.

In 2019, Tamara retired as president of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers where she envisioned and implemented “Putting Racism on the Table”. Currently, she co-facilitates The Onion Dialogues, a racial justice training. In 2018, her memoir, Daughters of the Dream: Eight Girls from Richmond who grew up in the Civil Rights Era was published. Her latest book is REVEALED: A Once a Week Reading on Racism, Prejudice and Bias. She loves walking and traveling, having visited all fifty states and countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.
